    “I decided to implement the Superhero Program with two of our Frist Grade Classes. In the first three sessions students were more interested in sharing superhero stories and egger to relate it to real life situations. Then afterwards, I’ve noticed that students were able to identify the Powords and share stories from their own experience on how they are their own superheroes. Students mostly enjoyed the Audio portion of the program as it is new to many of them in learning guided meditation.

    Another important observation I made was that students were able to verbalize freely with no judgement about certain situation they felt fear/scared and used their Powords to help relax their mind and body. As for me as a facilitator, hearing the students’ stories has been truly rewarding and allowed me to pause for a couple of minutes and reflect on how I continue to plant the seed for many children.”

    “We started our second session with the superhero conversation where they remembered what their mission had been and how superheroes connected with their superpower, we discussed for a few minutes the question: Do superheroes need someone from abroad to give them powers? We had a little debate because some said that they didn't need outside help because they themselves could, but others said that being superheroes they needed the approval of their parents or friends to feel that their superpower acquired more power.”

We commented on how they felt when they were listening to the fact that they are also part of those statements, that it is not just an audio for someone else, they commented that they were nervous, because the session confronts them with themselves and many times they do not feel prepared to believe it. what the session says, but they are really enjoying being able to have this space for themselves.”

The group had a conversation and they answered all the questions, we remember how superheroes connected with their powers. Each of them repeated in their mind what they liked the most.”

At first I had difficulty with Isabella's attitude, because she is not having a good time at home and showed negativity.     “The superhero program has provided me with the opportunity to teach students the effectiveness of self-empowerment through positive affirmations, social-emotional skills and strengthening self-worth missions. At the beginning of the program, it was difficult to set the routine and have the students follow the structure of the program. After the second week students were more engaged with the structure of the program and began to take ownership of the POW-words mentioned.

    Making the connection between superhero characteristics and self-worth was very interesting to watch. While some students fully embraced the superhero program by doing their superhero poses and owning their POW-words; others were shy and hesitant to participated in the group activities but 5 weeks in now and even the shy students have begun to participate more. I’m excited to see if students continue to practice the positive affirmations and self-calming breathing technique.”

Children from the Dones de Misericordia Colombia school enjoy Session 8 in a fun movement activity, move to be a Superhero using empowering language and a positive mindset.

Children rest and settle into comfortable positions to feel better inside, they feel safe, strong and ready to find their Inner Powers.

The children listened to the audio Affirmations of Strength and Confidence; they looked for a nice place where they felt comfortable. Each one repeated in their mind what they liked the most.

Building a larger and more positive vocabulary, children form a circle and repeat phrases using POWords.
